Do you want to
be a writer? What can you do to be a good writer? Start to write a paragraph.
But how do we begin to write a paragraph? These are the steps how to start
write a paragraph.
1.
Discovering ideas
a.
No ideas at all? Try freewriting (freewriting is not a draft. It can help after you have
some direction)
b.
Clustering. This method asks you to write a single
word or phrase in the center of a piece of paper and then to write down around
it any word or phrase that has a relation with.
c.
Brainstorming. You list in a word or phrase every
idea that occurs to you when you think about the general topic at hand.
d.
Journalist’s question. You can ask yourself the
classic question like what, where, when,
who, why, and how.
2.
Organizing ideas
You must decide on a central point. A rough
topic sentence for a paragraph or a working thesis sentence for an essay in the
form of the topic, plus a statement that expresses an opinion, attitude, or
feeling about it.
3.
Drafting
With your material in hand and the overall
shape of your paper determined, you can confidently begin the first draft. In
drafting, keep self-criticism to a minimum level.
4.
Revising
The process of revision requires a critical
frame of mind, a willingness to look closely at what we have written, knowing
that it can be improved. As you move through your draft, by yourself and
others, you will be looking to add, shift, cut, and rearrange material.
5.
Editing
After revise your paper several times for
materials, organization, and style, you must focus on mechanics: grammar,
spelling, and punctuation.
6.
Proofreading
This step is the last step for preparing a
paper. Assuming you have closely edited your last draft and caught all the
mechanical errors possible.
